Meet Lucas Everett

For Lucas Everett, Baylor is in his blood. As a Waco native, Lucas grew up around the Baylor culture, going to sporting events and enjoying all the Baylor traditions.

“It’s been a place I’ve loved for pretty much my entire life,” Lucas said. “It felt right coming to school here.”

As a business student, Lucas is studying marketing and entrepreneurship. In his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega, he’s able to put his knowledge to use.

“I serve as our brotherhood chair,” Lucas said. “There’s a lot of practical planning skills needed for the role, and it’s a cool experience to be on the other side of events that showcase — and essentially market — our organization to the community and potential members.”

Lucas also served as float chair within ATO for Baylor’s Homecoming parade. He planned the group’s float in partnership with a campus sorority. With the theme “Indy and Belle’s Toy Room,” the float delighted everyone as the historic parade moved through downtown Waco to campus.

Like many, faith has always been a pillar of Lucas’s family. Since beginning his journey at Baylor, he has truly taken ownership of what his faith looks like for himself with the help of an academic Christian community.

“I come from a family of pastors,” Lucas said. “Since coming to Baylor, I feel like I’ve discovered faith for myself, and it is something I’m actively pursuing. Everyone pushes each other to grow stronger in their faith which I’m forever grateful for.”

Lucas was pleasantly surprised to find some of the required classes at Baylor reinvigorated his pursuit of knowledge in his faith.

“I’ve been in public school my whole life, and we didn’t have any faith-based classes,” Lucas said. “Christian Heritage and Christian Scriptures were both classes I really enjoyed. I’ve learned about some of the material growing up in Sunday school, but we were able to really dig in and get deep.”

When Lucas is not in class, studying or working at Bear Mountain, one of Waco’s best-known outdoor companies, he finds balance by being active and in nature.

“I enjoy participating in intermural sports – I’ve played ultimate frisbee and basketball,” Lucas said. “I also have a group of friends who are a lot like me. They like to get outdoors. We go fishing, hunting, kayaking, even camping some weekends. It’s been a huge blessing. The community I’ve found has been unreal.”

Lucas’ outgoing personality has allowed him to connect and form friendships with students from all over the world. Lucas says that the diversity at Baylor and finding common interests despite differences has been eye-opening.

“Everybody I hang out with on a daily basis comes from different backgrounds,” Lucas said. “Someone next to me in class may be from a different country, different state or from Waco. You never know someone’s background, and it’s really cool to hear everybody’s unique story.”
