Inspired Are the Trendsetters

Meet Chloe McCauley

Chloe McCauley sees the good in everyone. She’s always been optimistic and driven by the prospect of the future, doing big things that make a difference. She looked forward to college and the chance to study what she’s most passionate about. 

As an apparel design major and Baylor Interdisciplinary Core student, Chloe is growing her knowledge across a broad range of subjects including other cultures around the world. And she’s growing as a person as she learns to blend her academics with a thriving personal life. 

Chloe found community in her residence hall. “It really is a close-knit community at South Russell,” Chloe said. “Our Community Leader genuinely cares. She organizes events that help create community in our residence hall. We're all really close. We're all just trying to grow together, and being surrounded by kind people makes you want to grow as a person and be kind to others.”

Chloe has also found a community in the classroom. Her small cohort in her program progresses together through their coursework in sequence, so there’s always someone to study with. With small class sizes, she has the opportunity to get to know her professors on a deeper level.

“My professors are just so brilliant, and they have so much knowledge and passion for the subjects that they teach, which makes me want to learn and grow more,” Chloe said. “I'm just incredibly inquisitive. I can ask question after question on a single subject and they will patiently give me insightful answers, which is very fortunate for someone with my curiosity.”

Outside of the classroom, Chloe has become involved with International Justice Mission, a student organization focused on ending violence and slavery around the world. One of the outreach events IJM puts on every year is a pop-up thrifted and vintage clothing market that raises donations for IJM mission trips. 

“Where our clothing comes from should be something people consider more,” Chloe said. “Being a part of IJM has opened my eyes to some of the negative aspects within the fashion industry and inspires me to be part of the change."

A natural artist, Chloe often finds herself sketching or water-coloring on campus and at a local coffee shop. She’s also an expert on thrift shopping in the area. “You can spot someone on campus that’s wearing something from one of the local thrift shops. You’re like, ‘yep, you’re cool. You have a good outfit on,’” Chloe said.   

Attending Line Camp helped Chloe build community before classes even began. “Line Camp was such a special experience,” Chloe said. “All week, the energy is so vibrant and electric and fun. My Line Camp leader truly went above and beyond to show how much she cared about us. To this day, I still receive texts from her to show that she still thinks of us. Line Camp teaches you about all the Baylor traditions, but along with that, I think it really shows what Baylor values and how they truly care for their students.”

Chloe is learning to live in the moment while at Baylor. “I sometimes think about the future too often, and I have to remind myself to live in the present. It’s one of the things I took away from Line Camp.” she said. “My small group was so beautiful and vulnerable; we acquired so much grace for one another and insight into other people’s lives. We all grew as humans by the end of Line Camp.”

“I have found a true sense of belonging at Baylor,” Chloe said. “I’ve been able to develop meaningful relationships with my classmates, my neighbors, my friends and my professors that will last forever, and this has really allowed me to flourish.”
