Meet Ezekiel Sutton

For Ezekiel Sutton life is all about connecting with people everywhere he goes. His desire to build meaningful relationships ultimately led him from his small town in Oregon to Waco and Baylor University. 

“I was seeking community with like-minded, Christ-centered people,” Ezekiel said. “Baylor was actually the only school on my list. When I started thinking of where I wanted to go to college, I decided it was Baylor or nothing.”

A psychology major, Ezekiel added a minor in business administration with a goal to apply what he learns to a career in the marketing field. 

“I see psychology as a foundation of who we are. It’s how our brains work, it’s how we see the world. I think this background will help me be a more effective marketer,” he said.

Ezekiel also is making connections on the Baylor co-ed Spirit Squad as a Yell Leader. Baylor’s three spirit squads, along with mascots Bruiser and Marigold, support 19 sports where they hype up the fans at home and at key away games and make appearances at University and community events.

“Our spirit squad team is like a little family,” Ezekiel said. “We have such a blast together, cheering on the Bears, engaging with the fans and sharing our passion for Baylor with the community.”

Ezekiel finds that Baylor’s beloved traditions help students from outside of Texas feel welcome. 

“Where I’m from, football and homecoming aren’t that important,” Ezekiel said. “Baylor’s Homecoming is one of my favorite traditions. The parade, the fireworks, the bonfire, all build this unforgettable atmosphere. Seeing alumni and families return to campus to reconnect with one another is something really special, and I look forward to continuing this tradition one day."

Although he’s a long way from his hometown, Ezekiel has found a little piece of Waco that feels like home. Living in an on-campus residence hall helped him develop the community he was looking for.

“Living on campus my first year was a lot of fun,” he said. “I loved being on campus, because there was always something new going on. I was able to experience all the opportunities that Baylor had to offer. I was able to come back ‘home’ to my residence hall and get to know people with similar interests and similar goals, and I’ve made some friends I’ll have for the rest of my life.”

“Coming to Baylor has been life changing,” Ezekiel said. “I’ve learned so much – not just academically, but about myself, who I am, and where I want to go in life. That’s all because of the people here – the professors are really invested in the things they teach. It’s just such a different environment. Everyone here is so kind, and also so hardworking, and it really brings out the best in you.”
